First things first, ALL proceeds from the book will be going directly to pediatric cancer research. This makes me more driven than ever!!! To think that something we at CKc created from such a horrific situation could be used for good like less harsh treatments is such an amazing feeling! Truly!
Many of you have been asking when we will be releasing the book. I thank you for all our emails and I believe I responded to everyone.
I appreciate this may sound vague but I was told if I gave a specific date I was in trouble....
The CKc Board (and technically my bosses) said that I can confirm that it will be released in 2015. I, of course, don't do terribly well with rules or direction so I would like to add in a little line saying the book will be released for Cannon's birthday on August 10, 2015. Trust me, I will suffer greatly for the disclosure but it's a price I am willing to pay.
Too many rules made Jack a dull boy. I am many things but dull is not one of them. :)
The book is a story of HOPE. It's a story for ANY parent. My hope is we sell thousands, millions (go big or go home, right?). All proceeds will go to research which makes me get goosebumps all over!! Can you imagine the change we could make if the book is a success? I imagine!!! I really do!!!!
The book isn't a sad book. In fact, some pages will make you laugh, cry, get mad and hopefully call you to action.
The book, I hope, will be a book for parents, grandparents, teachers, anyone. It will create a sense of not sweating the small stuff, using energy where it's best served, not allowing the guy that cut you off in traffic to steal your joy. It will make you kiss and cuddle your children, grandchildren and students more than ever. It will create a sense of living in today, living in the moment!
I truly hope it sells well not for my ego (and trust me, like everyone else I have one), but for all the dollars pediatric cancer could gain!
CKc is a very open organization. I hold no shame in saying we have reached our half way goal of $50,000. That said I feel extreme pressure for the next $50,000 that we NEED to raise by June 16, 2015. We have one to two cancer research projects we are going to fund (more on that later) and in order to fund them we need $100,000. I will not let these projects fail!! We at CKc are devoted!!!! We have Ashley writing grants, Michael presenting, educating and trying to obtain corporate sponsors, Richard publishing our book and myself trying to get the card club in every state in the US as well as 10 countries worldwide (I'm almost halfway there with 5 countries and 21 states). Then there is lots behind the scenes with the development of a newsletter and the website being revamped and managed by Debra Brett. It truly takes a village!!!
I say all this why? I want everyone to know that every dollar you raise via donations, the card club or otherwise is going to a good cause. Currently we are at an 85 percent to research and 15 percent to cost ratio. The cost has been primarily legal since we are now a 501(c)(3) and that cost us over $5,000 in legal fees to a charity lawyer. Again, we at CKc are very open and want full disclosure which is why we share these figures! Everyone on the team devotes their time on a volunteer basis. Someday we hope to pay people but until then we are trudging the road to cure this dreadful disease.
If you would like to host a card club event which involves donating $5 per participant and creating cards for kids with cancer fighting in the hospital. please email me directly with your home address and I will send you a packet. Melissa.firstname.lastname@example.org
Yesterday I had a wonderful conference call with a very large Orlando company who will have around 200-300 people make cards. More on that later! The exciting news is that the card club is growing, people are being educated and made aware that kids get cancer, too and making a difference to the kids fighting and to research dollars!! It's just so amazing!!!!!!!
Stay tuned for information on a street party in College Park in April. We are hoping to not only raise awareness and create cards but raise lots of money for research.
Well, naptime is almost over and I have baking with my daughter to do for her school project so I hope that's enough to chew on for now!!!
If you wish to make a tax deductible donation please click the link below.
Again, know every dollar is being used in the best possible way!! That's a pinky promise from your newest dual citizen. ;)
