Ok, I can't keep it in any longer, not even for a second...
This week the CKc Foundation was given a $25,000 donation toward our pediatric brain cancer research project. Can I just say ahhhhhhhhhh!!!
Last year during Cannon's battle, a woman by the name of Catherine Totero emailed me saying she had witnessed cancer in her father and she just couldn't believe what Cannon was enduring. Her father had started a foundation called "Hackers For Hope". She told me how she dreamed of getting them to support Cannonball Kids' cancer.
In my heart I thought, "A foundation for adult cancer... imagine - just imagine - if they helped children. That would be a huge shift!!"
That, my friends, is the domino effect. My favorite saying pops into my brain:
"I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples." ~ Mother Teresa
Domino and ripple effect - oh yeah, baby!!!
Because of Catherine going out on a limb and presenting to her father's Board - she made a change!!! This is so huge. Bigger than the money, it's that someone is seeing the atrocity that is childhood cancer and saying "Yeah, we want to help adults but what about the kids? What about the fact that the average age of death in cancer in kids is 7 years old and the average age of a man that dies from prostate cancer is 77 and yet the government gives kids less than a third of what these adults get?" Please don't get it twisted... adult cancers need research but to that VERY same extent so do our children!!! I will say that to my grave!
Catherine learned of these facts and look what she did. I want to do a shout out to Ashley VanDerMark, our CEO. She has been working tirelessly and constantly behind the scenes for two years with no compensation and she helped make this happen. Actually, she kind of helps everything happen. For two years, since 4 days after our diagnosis date, she has been pushing CKc forward to become the foundation we wish it be. The foundation that educates... funds... and creates the ripple effect!
We are so, so, so excited about this donation. It means we are well on our way to making $100,000 to fund the pediatric brain cancer project in memory of Oscar. This is our FIRST dream of many at CKc. I believe we are at around $80,000 but I am not the banker. I know it's around that range and that's since we were founded in June of 2014 - which means we're averaging almost $10,000 per month for pediatric cancer.
It's now that I want to thank everyone that is making online donations. I see all the donations come in and so many $5, $10, $20 donations. They make me so happy. It is those that all add to up that $10,000 a month we are averaging.
CKc is only beginning its journey in educating to eliminate pediatric cancer. Last week we received over $1500 from Card Club events around the nation.
Watch out cancer!
CKc is beginning to form a defense and an offense - and it's only the beginning.
Please check out Hackers For Hope and show them gratitude for pediatric cancer... all because one woman didn't think it was right that adults got more funding than kids.
