Anyone who knows me knows I'm driven, motivated and generally don't take no for an answer. Just ask my husband...
So when we met with other pediatric cancer foundations we asked what a realistic number would be for our first year of fundraising, keeping in mind our son was still in treatment, we had no paid employees and our CEO has three kids, too? The two largest foundations we love and support came back to us with $60,000 and $80,000 in their first year as foundations. Both now give around $25 and $30 million per year. Wow!!!!! That's my goal!!! Go Big or Go Home - right?
So I went to our Board and said, "I say $100,000 for our first year." My husband said that wouldn't happen with Cannon in treatment and one year old twins, etc. Did I mention I don't take no for answer? Well, I didn't!
On June 10, 2014, just one year since Cannon was diagnosed we had our Founders Night and formal launch and began fundraising. Today we celebrate one year!!! One whole year!!
With tears in my eyes I can now confirm we made OUR goal!!! We will give a check this summer for $100,000 to research specifically for children's brain cancer.
I understand this isn't $25 million. But understand this... we at CKc are just getting warmed up!!!!!!
Round one - cancer you lose!!!!
We are not here to lose!
I want to thank all of you reading this blog! All of you who purchased our T-shirts, bought a book, held a card club event or plan to! To everyone who attended our block party, who plan on coming to our book signings and generally educate your communities about pediatric cancer - without ALL of you, without those donations of TIME and MONEY, CKc would not be making any changes!!!
We have so much planned for our future. It's just so exciting for me to be a part of this incredible team!! Our CEO is a rockstar, our creative director is awe-inspiring and my husband is financially savvy and keeps us on track with everything legal. I can't express how proud I am of our team!! Truly, I'm so lucky to have them on this journey.
So today, I apologize for the bragging blog, but I'm just extremely proud of what we have done in a year. Warm-up is over. Watch this space - CKc plans on kicking some major pediatric cancer butt!!!
Thank you to all the Warriors who think and pray for my Cannonball daily.
