Lobbying, granting, and dancing our way to a cure!

Post from Debra, Communications Director for CKc Foundation:

Hi CKc Community,

It’s been a great and very busy two weeks here at CKc! Michael, along with our lobbyist firm, met with congressional staff on Capitol Hill to help educate and lobby for changes in childhood cancer funding legislation. Our board had an introductory call with the American Childhood Cancer Organization (acco.org), to establish a relationship and advance our lobbying efforts in D.C.. Our board also held a conference call with our lobbyist team in D.C. to discuss the takeaways from Michael’s visit on Capitol Hill and the legislation changes we hope to achieve. Michael is providing CKc's comments to the National Institutes of Health (NIH)  Request for Information on Future Strategic Plan and the STAR Act (Childhood cancer Survivorship, Treatment, Access, and Research). Ashley and Melissa drove to Augusta, Georgia, to present our first research grant for $100,000 to Dr. Ted Johnson at Georgia Regents University Cancer Center.  The grant will be used to help fund a first-in-children, phase-one pediatric brain cancer immunotherapy clinical trial that has the potential to change the face of pediatric cancer forever! Melissa will post further details about her trip soon.

Our team may be small, but we are mighty! As Melissa would say…“Take that, cancer!”.

Don’t forget, if you are in the Clermont, FL, area this weekend, stop by to see Michael and Melissa at Dancing for a Cure on Saturday night! Michael will be making a presentation and Melissa will be dancing! :-) Purchase tickets at Arthurmurrayclermont.com. See our Events page for more information.
