Team CKc on a mission...

Post from Debra:

Hello Cannonball Community!

I hope you had a chance to read Melissa’s post from earlier this morning. Powerful words.

Here is our latest update about what is going on with Team CKc and a look ahead:

We would like to thank everyone who came out to support the Dancing for a Cure fundraiser in Clermont on the 15th of August. We are excited to report the event raised $2,500 for CKc!! Wow!! Thank you!!

Michael made a presentation about childhood cancer to the staff and the upper-school students of St. Luke’s Episcopal School in Mobile, Alabama. After the presentation, one student came to Michael and said he was motivated to raise $100,000 before he graduated from the school. Team CKc is always so touched by people who want to step up and help us fight children’s cancer. No one is too young or old to help. As Michael said during his speech, you can choose to be either a “thermometer” or a “thermostat” for fighting childhood cancer. You can be a “thermometer” and simply take note of what was said in the room. Or, you can be a “thermostat” and have the ability to make a change in the room, and ultimately in the world.

Tomorrow, Michael will be golfing and raising awareness along with our friends across the pond in Scotland at the Third Annual Cannonball Kids’ cancer Day at Dundonald Links. We are so grateful for the support and effort put forth from our international friends! Children’s cancer knows no geographic boundary; we all need to fight and raise money for research to help children worldwide. Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to coordinate this event and to all the golfers and volunteers who will make this a fabulous fundraiser!

Melissa will be creating awareness this side of the pond tomorrow in College Park, Florida at the grand opening of Shoppes of College Park (2308 Edgewater Dr., Orlando, 32804). Purchase a copy of “Thankful For The Fight” and Melissa will personally sign your book! These books also make a great gift idea, especially as we begin Childhood cancer Awareness Month on the 1st of September. Stop by and see us tomorrow!

We have officially received a generous donation of original artwork from renowned artist, Jeff Hanson (! Thank you, Jeff, for helping us change the landscape of children’s cancer through your art. This special piece will be available via auction at an event Team CKc is planning for spring of next year. More info to come!

September is Childhood cancer Awareness Month and we have many opportunities for you to help us Cannonball Kids’ cancer! It’s not too late to plan a CKc Card Club event for your neighbors, church, co-workers, class, etc.! It is easy to do and it helps us raise funds and spread the word at a grassroots level. Visit to learn more. Gift a copy of “Thankful For The Fight” to a local person of influence or friend. Ask your company if they participate in corporate gift matching and designate CKc as your foundation of choice. Simply make a donation for pediatric cancer research via our web site. Attend any of the events listed on our web site ( or participate in a childhood cancer awareness event in your area. Just do something! Start somewhere! We won’t know what we can accomplish if we don’t try! These kids need us!

Melissa and Ashley also are finalizing their plans for attending CureFest in Washington D.C. in mid-September where they will join thousands of other people dedicated to eradicating childhood cancer. It will be a full weekend of lobbying, raising awareness, and working towards a cure.

We are planning more book signing events for the fall and we also are working on hosting a fun cocktail party in December!

We can’t do this without you!! Thank you for being a part of our CKc Community!!!
