Hello CKc Community!
Wow! We have finally arrived at the week of our inaugural Gold Gala event! We are so very excited to host our biggest fundraiser yet for pediatric cancer research! It takes a village and we have, no doubt, the best village of CKc supporters who have helped make this event possible! We can't wait to report back to you on the success of the event and we pray we are able to tell you that the Gold Gala exceeded our goal of raising $100,000! Did you know you can still help us reach our goal? You can make a donation via our web site or mail a check to Cannonball Kids' cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 547797, Orlando, FL 32854. Thank you for helping us fund critical research!!
During the Gold Gala, we will premiere our new CKc video, which will be posted to our web site after the event. In the new video, we introduce our two special friends, Ava and Trevor, our inspirations for the two clinical trials we hope to fund in the coming year with the monies raised through the Gold Gala and continued donations we receive through our web site, CKc Card Club and all other fundraising efforts. Our clinical research trial priorities for 2016 are neuroblastoma, a cancer that develops in nerve cells, and rhabdomyosarcoma, a cancer that forms in the soft muscle tissue. Ava was diagnosed with neuroblastoma when she was two years old. She is now six and is fighting a relapse of this aggressive disease. Ava’s family was critical in supporting CKc co-founders, Michael and Melissa Wiggins, when their son, Cannon, was diagnosed with the same type of cancer when he was twenty months old. Our friend Trevor is eight years old and was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma when he was four. Trevor’s family and the Wiggins family met as their sons were being treated for cancer at the same hospital. After beating two relapses and going through a recent period of being declared NED (No Evidence of Disease) we have learned the devastating news that Trevor’s cancer has returned and has quickly spread throughout his body. Last week, Trevor’s family made the difficult and heartbreaking decision to bring Trevor home on Hospice care. This news fires us up and makes us want to fight even harder for all kids fighting this horrific disease. Ava and Trevor, we love you!
Going into the week of the Gold Gala, we also are extremely pleased to report to you that Cannonball Kids’ cancer recently received its financial report for 2015 and we achieved a fundraising efficiency rating of 96%, which means we only spent $0.04 of each dollar raised on overhead. Top-rated charities must achieve a rating of 80% efficiency or higher. Our 96% rating is considered outstanding and proves that we work diligently to keep our foundation costs down so we can fund research efficiently and effectively!
We can’t wait until Saturday! Stay tuned for a special Gold Gala update after the event!
Until next time,
